referencing - will not edit in visual editor

    [edit]

Hi I had to redo all all my referencing as it put them all out of numerical order. Now when i go to enter them it will give the reference a number [5] instead of a number [13] I've put so much work into my article an no one is helping. I've tried editing it that many times and it keeps doing it. Now I Just want to delete my Wikipedia article and put it somewhere else. I'm very cluey when it comes to things like this but from what i can see and you also can't find a draft page. You reach out for help here and there is nothing. I would like my article I wrote deleted now but i can't even do that! And there is no help page and it seems my information is now permanently stuck here for all eternity until the inevitable marked for deletion comes up, with people voting from what I have read. Or unless you request someone else's article gets deleted! What a strange platform that we cannot delete our own work after finding out how complicated wikipedia actually is. I wanted drafts but can't even do that it goes straight to publish under the sandbox and there is no draft available to do this. Most of us aren't versed in code for the other editor. And the visual editor even Wikipedia admit its got bugs and not reliable, so what is the point if there are no other options. You click on help, type in what you need help with and it takes you to some huge technical page. With no explanation. This had been made way too complicated to navigate and its like going down the proverbial rabbit hole which leads to a whole other set of problems. It's like a black hole you fall into and can't get out of . How sad and disappointing to learn this. I dont want to have to have a university degree to be able to master this but it seems at this rate it's required. Nanette unsolved (talk) 08:00, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You are attempting the most difficult task there is on Wikipedia! I have made some edits to your draft to help you on your way. Theroadislong (talk) 08:15, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thankyou so much I so appreciate it. As you can see there are so many edits from me due to this. I've looked up tutorials as well. Seems there was a glitch or something but good to know @Theroadislong Nanette unsolved (talk) 09:59, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Nanette unsolved, if I'm understanding you correctly, you're frustrated by the fact you use ref#15 for someething, and it's suddenly now ref#3 or something? You need to ignore the # of the references; they are numbered by the order in which they appear in the article, so that can change every time you insert a reference. I've renamed them for you; instead of using the number, use the name. Valereee (talk) 12:22, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
oh wow thankyou @Valereee I was about to add some external links So I hope i do this right. Yes that's what was happening. It's also saying my page doesn't exist. I think this is because my article isn't approved yet, would that be correct? ~~~~ Nanette unsolved (talk) 12:32, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Nanette unsolved, it's in your sandbox, which means that it hasn't been submitted yet for approval. When you feel it is ready for submission, you can move it to Draft:Murder of Nanette Mae Ellis and submit it for approval. You won't be able to do this for another three days (your account must be at least 4 days old to make a move) so use that time to make sure you've used WP:RELIABLE sources. For instance, Wikipedia does not consider Wikipedia to be a reliable source, so you need to go find the information from Boronia, Victoria that you're using, figure out what sources that article is using, and cite to that source rather than to the Wikipedia article about that subject. Sorry if that's clear as mud! :) Valereee (talk) 12:53, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I understand thankyou for clearing that up @Valereee Nanette unsolved (talk) 13:03, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    error message problem

    [edit]

I updated the Sexual Compulsives Anonymous literature list on the Wikipedia page. Somehow, the word "ISBN" is listed twice next to the top entry, I dont know how to change it

    Gordonbsca (talk) 12:33, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

When filling in the "ISBN" field, you just need to type in the numbers. I've removed the extra "ISBN" for you. Tutwakhamoe (talk) 12:41, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I guess it refers to a Wikipedia user account, but what do you mean by "use this"? Most things don't require an account. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:44, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
See Why create an account? Although you don't have to create an account to do basic editing of non-protected articles, you can do a much wider range of things with an account.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 15:48, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Do Not Archive Until Tag

    [edit]

If I remove "<!-- [[User:DoNotArchiveUntil]] 01:13, 16 July 2124 (UTC) -->{{User:ClueBot III/DoNotArchiveUntil|4876766028}}" from my own talk page, will this allow the section in question to be removed automatically by the archive bot? --Jax 0677 (talk) 15:31, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Jax 0677: Yes, assuming nothing else prevents archiving. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:41, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

How should one translate 10 Lives to 10 Lives (album) to preserve the album article history?

    [edit]

To avoid a cut & paste move, how should one translate 10 Lives to 10 Lives (album) to preserve the album article history while keeping the disambiguation page at 10 Lives (at least for now)? --Jax 0677 (talk) 15:43, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Jax 0677: Do you mean you want to start an article at 10 Lives (album) with content from the page history of 10 Lives? Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/10 Lives decided to not have an article about the album. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:51, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have no intention of restarting an article about 10 Lives, only preserving the article history somewhere in a manner similar to how it is preserved now. --Jax 0677 (talk) 15:56, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Jax 0677: An administrator could make a history split but it would be odd when the content has never been at 10 Lives (album) and isn't anywhere live. If your concern is somebody looking at the page history there and not realizing but possibly wanting to know there is an album page history at 10 Lives then you could make a dummy edit to the redirect with an edit summary like "The page history of 10 Lives has an article about the album but Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/10 Lives decided to not keep the article". PrimeHunter (talk) 16:11, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The problem, is that there is a move discussion to translate 10 Lives (film) to 10 Lives. --Jax 0677 (talk) 19:20, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK, didn't know that. A preserved page history may not be needed when it was decided to redirect but I have made a history split from 10 Lives to 10 Lives (album). PrimeHunter (talk) 22:59, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Thank you. --Jax 0677 (talk) 23:44, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Will I get in trouble?

    [edit]

Will I get in trouble if I move a draft to the main space article? I haven't really been involved in moving a draft, as I know we have articles for review. Thank you! 45BearsFan (talk) 16:51, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@45BearsFan: The WP:AFC process is optional. If you have a draft that is ready for mainspace, you may move it there. See WP:DRAFTMOVE RudolfRed (talk) 17:54, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@45BearsFan (Assuming this is about Draft:Haas Factory Team) The new pages patrol look at pages moved into mainspace without going through WP:AfC. They may treat them a bit more harshly than a reviewer would. For that specific draft, I note that parts towards the end have no cited sources and the whole thing is a bit WP:CRYSTALBALL, since it refers to something that may or may not happen in 2025. Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:19, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I should've worded it better but it was about the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series article. 45BearsFan (talk) 14:45, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you have some practice reviewing drafts, and you think yours is OK, go ahead and move it. Otherwise submit it for review. I'm pretty experienced (I've created several articles and I'm an administrator) but occasionally I still submit something for review to get another set of eyes on it for improvement. I know it can take months but there is no deadline. You've received some criticism by Mike Turnbull, above. I suggest you heed it before you move the article. ~Anachronist (talk) 14:41, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Train Stops

    [edit]

Hi all, I am currently running a project dedicated to an extension of a train service in my area. It involves the regular train service, as well as Amtrak. I wanted to know how to style the page, for the header, do I use the Amtrak header or do I use the train service's header? Thanks in advance. Cloudsarepretty (talk) 19:39, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

But does this involve an article here on Wikipedia? If it doesn't, we can't help on this.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 19:43, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, sorry for the lack of clarification. Yes, It involves about 7 pages. The entire project involves more but the specific problem I'm having only involves the small number. Cloudsarepretty (talk) 19:46, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    OS Grid references

    [edit]

Hi Folks!! Is there anyway to use a grid reference outside an infobox, for example could I somehow it in a cell table via a template and enable it to open OpenStreetMap, for example. scope_creepTalk 19:54, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that you can use Template:Coord anywhere. ColinFine (talk) 20:37, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If by OS you mean Ordnance Survey, then perhaps {{OS coord}} will do what you want.
    Trappist the monk (talk) 21:29, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Scope creep: When I've had occasion to add OS grid coordinates in an article, I've always used one of the {{Gbmapping}} templates. That provides a link to a GeoHack page from which one can choose to open OpenStreetMap, Google Maps, an OS map, etc. {{Gbmappingsmall}} might be most appropriate for use in a table cell. Deor (talk) 14:25, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Trappist the monk:, @Deor: Both of them seem to be ideal. I'll test them to see how they behave. Thanks folks!! scope_creepTalk 17:55, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Assistance in Creating/Updating Author and TV Show Creator Page

    [edit]

    Hello Wikipedia Community,

I am seeking assistance in creating or updating a Wikipedia page for myself as an author and creator of children’s TV shows. I have published three books and produced several TV shows for kids. Here are some details about my work:

Books Published (albanian language): “Mëngjeset janë parajsa“ (poezi, 2018) - "Heaven is another morning" (poetry, 2018) „Qyteti Qiellzi“ (prozë poetike, 2020) - "Black Sky City" (poetic prose, sci-fi, 2020) „Qielli i shpirtit“ (poemë, 2021) - "Sky of the soul" (poem, sci-fi, 2021)

TV Shows for Kids: I've been working for 12 years in MRT (Macedonian Radio Television) which is a public broadcasting organization and there I have worked as an author and presenter. These are my original titles:

    „Eja në përrallën tonë“ (2015-2018) - "Come to our fairytale" (2015-2018) „Zbavitemi dhe zbulojmë“ (2019) - "Having fun and uncovering) (2019) „Pirati mjekërrzi“ (2020) - "The Blackbeard pirate" „Arushi dhe Bretkosa“ (2020) - "The Bear and the Frog" (2020) - Tv puppet show „E drejtë apo e gabuar“ (2021 – 2022) - "Right or wrong" (2021 - 2022) „Bota e përrallave“ (2023) - " The world of fairytales" (2023) Tv Drama

I was granted achievement award for the show "The Bear and the Frog" by AJM (Association of Journalists of Macedonia), UNDP and Swiss Embassy for Educational and Creative approach for raising awareness in children regarding the environment. Some of the my shows are accessible in the following YouTube Page: UC36A3Uy9VCn37qqhV4bh_MQ

    Animated illustration:

I worked with the following artists - Antonio Arangelovic (illustrator), Marina Avramovic (editor) and Adem Karaga (actor) and produced an animated illustration by visualizing the first chapter of my book "A dying world". You can see this in the next link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LR9q8EhqRs&t=1s

Media Coverage: MRT (Macedonian Radio Television) interviewed both of my books which can be found in the following links: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oltm8DhzL1M&t=617s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JL4yImvpq2A

I understand the importance of neutrality and verifiability on Wikipedia and would appreciate the community’s help in ensuring that the page meets all guidelines and standards.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

Best regards, Asdren Çeliku Asdrenceliku (talk) 02:17, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Most of these sources are not suitable. Self published sources are avoided as much as possible, while videos and interviews involving you don't help the claim for notability either. We will need indepth and independent coverage of you, like ones from news articles, books or other trustworthy sources, preferably not routine coverage like announcement of upcoming projects or being appointed to certain roles. Sources doesn't have to be in English. Tutwakhamoe (talk) 04:19, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Tutwakhamoe: Can you refer to a policy which substantiates the claim that "interviews... don't help the claim for notability"? It seems to me that that is not correct, and that interviews may, depending on the context and source, be relevant when considering notability. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 09:53, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Interviews do not establish notability, as by definition an interview is the person speaking about themselves. Anyone can claim anything in an interview. We want to know what others say about you, not what you say about yourself. 331dot (talk) 11:34, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The question was "Can you refer to a policy which substantiates the claim...". Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 11:43, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Tungatjeta, Asdren. You are very strongly discouraged from writing about yourself in Wikipedia: see autobiography. This is mostly because it is difficult to write in a neutral tone about oneself, or to judge what is neutral.
Note that Wikipedia has little interest in what the subject of an article says or wants to say about themselves, or what their associates say about them. Wikipedia is almost entirely interested in what people who have no connection with the subject, and who have not been prompted or fed information on behalf of the subject, have chosen to publish about the subject in reliable sources. If enough material is cited from independent sources to establish notability, a limited amount of uncontroversial factual information may be added from non-independent sources.
I'll also point out that, even without the added difficulty of writing about yourself, most editors who try to create an article before they have spent a considerable time learning about Wikipedia's processes and requirements, usually have a frustrating and miserable experience. My earnest advice to new editors is to not even think about trying to create an article until you have spent several weeks - at least - learning about how Wikipedia works by making improvements to existing articles. Once you have understood core policies such as verifiability, neutral point of view, reliable, independent sources, and notability, and experienced how we handle disagreements with other editors (the Bold, Revert, Discuss cycle), then you might be ready to read your first article carefully, and try creating a draft. @Michael D. Turnbull There are several results for his birthplace as Ganane and his birth year as 1919. However there are few sources that explain these discrepancies ([2] ; [3] ; [4]). Thank you very much, I've submitted the draft. It's a short translation from Persian to English. I remember being able to publish direct translations before. Would it be possible to get it approved quickly? Neginghaderii (talk) 06:18, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Neginghaderii en:Wikipedia sometimes has different policies compared to other-language versions, which is why using the WP:AfC process is a good idea if you haven't edited here in a while. In particular, we have very strict rules for biogrpahies of living people, to do with inline citations for every fact that might be disputed. At present, I see no citation in your draft for his DOB or that he was influenced by his father. I haven't checked your sources to see if you could back these parts up. Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:32, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I’m working on a draft article about Koorosh Ghorbani, an Iranian trial motorcyclist, and I’m having some trouble with sourcing. He is well-known in Iran and has been featured extensively in Persian media, which are reliable sources in his home country. These sources were sufficient for his Persian Wikipedia page, but I’m unsure how to use them as references on the English Wikipedia.
I know Koorosh Ghorbani personally, and I have access to official documents and translated certificates of his championships. He has participated in international races, including two in Mexico and two in Italy, and I might be able to find links to these events. However, most of the detailed coverage of his career is in Persian.
Can anyone advise on how I can use Persian sources on English Wikipedia? Additionally, is there a way to upload and use translated documents as sources? We’re aiming to introduce him to an international audience, and having an English Wikipedia page is important for this purpose.
Thank you in advance for any guidance! Neginghaderii (talk) 05:02, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You can use sources in other languages on en.wiki, the WP:Reliable sources guideline does not assess based on language used. However, it seems doubtful official documents and certificates would be reliable sources. You should also read WP:COI, Wikipedia is not intended to be a vehicle to advertise to various audiences. CMD (talk) 05:18, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Neginghaderii, our software has a translation tool, but some time ago (can't remember when), it was disabled or restricted because its users were producing extremely poor-quality translations, almost as bad as machine translation. Perhaps you used this feature before it was disabled, and now you can't because of the changes to the tool? Nyttend (talk) 22:40, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the clarification. Yes, I remember using the translation tool in the past, which is why I was surprised when I encountered difficulties this time. I want to emphasize that I’m Iranian, and Persian is my first language, so the translation I provided is a careful and accurate one, not a rough machine translation.
I’m fully aware of the limitations of machine translations and have taken care to ensure that the text is high quality and faithfully represents the original content. I’m hoping to get some guidance on how to move forward with submitting this translation.
Thank you for your assistance! Neginghaderii (talk) 05:04, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Embed hatnote in page-top template, one transclusion only

    [edit]

Each of the reference desks transcludes a page-top template, Wikipedia:Reference desk/header, taking a parameter to provide desk-specific information; e.g., Wikipedia:Reference desk/Science transcludes {{Wikipedia:Reference desk/header|WP:RD/S}}. The humanities desk has a separate hatnote:

Any idea how to embed this in the humanities-only component of the page-top template? I've never understood how to edit variable content in templates more complicated than {{{1}}}, {{{2}}}, {{{3}}}, etc. Nyttend (talk) 21:08, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You can test the pagename like this:
    {{#ifeq:{{SUBPAGENAME}}|Humanities|{{redirect|WP:RD/H|the template header used in all areas of the [[WP:REFD|reference desks]]|WP:Reference desk/Header}}}}
    But I don't think Wikipedia:Reference desk/header deserves a hatnote at Wikipedia:Reference desk/Humanities. It's not user-facing and only gets around 8 page views per month. Wikipedia:Reference desk/Humanities gets around 10,000. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:43, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Infobox video game and DISPLAYTITLE

    [edit]

I've been trying to make the DISPLAYTITLE of Shapez 2 lowercase, and {{DISPLAYTITLE:''shapez 2''}} works, but only if the {{Infobox video game}} is removed. When I readded the infobox, an error message of Warning: Display title "Shapez 2" overrides earlier display title "shapez 2" (help). shows up. I tried following the instructions, but it still doesn't work. Could someone with more experience in DISPLAYTITLEs take a look? Thanks. Edit reversion on Land Rover Defender (L663)

    [edit]

    Hello.

Recently I began a new section on the Land Rover Defender (L663) page with the options available. However, it was reverted by user Frost since it was advertising material. If you look at the edit it is clearly not advertisement, with me just quoting the names of the options available. How can I solve the issues within my edit, and get it back on the article, or just revert the reversion?

    Thanks, A1C6. A1C6 (talk) 08:10, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A1C6, Wikipedia is not a sales brochure for the Land Rover Defender or any other commercial product. Promotional editing on Wikipedia is forbidden. Readers can go to the Land Rover website for banal and routine information like a list of available colors, wheels and seat upholstery options. Cullen328 (talk) 08:52, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I do understand that, however I am not listing the options as a sales brochure - I am documenting them for the future, as far configurators are rarely properly accessible on archives like the Wayback machine, thus an important detail of this vehicle will be lost to time - which juxtaposes the entire goal of Wikipedia. A1C6 (talk) 09:12, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We believe you, and that your intent is entirely benign. Nevertheless, it is probably too fine a level of detail for the article, or at least arguably it is. You could open a thread on the article's talk page, and see if you can convince the reverter, or get a consensus to include the material from other uses. My guess is that that'd be futile, but you never know I suppose. (As I'm sure you can understand, we do have a pretty quick trigger for stuff that looks like promotional material, even if it's not, because we get a lot of stuff that is promotional material and it's a constant game of whack-a-mole.) Herostratus (talk) 10:45, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The key to this lies in the Wikipedia:Golden Rule which is whether trivia such as the available colors, wheels and seat upholstery options have been reported on with significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the topic. Do you have those sources? Shantavira|feed me 14:01, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That Golden Rule thing is interesting, however the details I am copying from the Landrover configurator are purely the specs and option names - not material convincing one to buy something. A1C6 (talk) 21:10, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Another way to look at this, which concurs with what Shantavira said, is that Wikipedia has little interest in what the subject of an article says or wants to say about themselves, or what their associates say about them. The chances are that such details have been discussed only by the manufacturer or associates, and so do not belong in the article. ColinFine (talk) 16:51, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    US Interests Section Havana Cuba

    [edit]

Dear Wikipedia - my parent's firm was the architect on the US Interests Section in Havana Cuba ending in 1997. They held a contract with the US Dept of State, OBO. This is of great importance to my parents as they are Cuban born and their firm was a minority disadvantaged business and the most meaningful project in their firms' history. I would like to add their firm name to the respective Wikipedia pages and request your assistance. Please let me know how I can assist.

Thank you in advance for your help,

You'd have to demonstrate that your parents' firm is wikinotable to warrant a mention, and should you decide to do this, you should disclose your conflict of interest. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 18:47, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    DELETE MY ACCOUNT

    [edit]

Hello, I just created a Wikipedia account because I thought I would be able to bookmark articles of interest to me within my account, rather than cluttering up my computer with a lot of bookmarks, for which I often get told that I'm running out of space on my computer, etc. So, since bookmarking articles within my account does not appear to be an option, I would like to delete my account altogether since I just created the account and have no intention of editing any articles. Please advise what I need to do in order to delete my account.

    Thank you,

BRomer99 for attribution reasons, accounts cannot be deleted. Since you have not made any significant edits, you can simply log out and never log in again. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 01:26, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@BRomer99:You can use your user page or a user subpage to hold your collection of bookmarks. Just edit the page and add links. Organize that page any way you want. -Arch dude (talk) 01:36, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Others can see those pages. For a private list which is easier to make, you could use your watchlist and view it at Special:Watchlist/edit which gives an alphabetical list of the page names. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:14, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Assistance Needed with Sourcing for Draft Article on Koorosh Ghorbani

    [edit]

Hi everyone, I’m working on a draft article about Koorosh Ghorbani, an Iranian trial motorcyclist, and I’m having some trouble with sourcing. He is well-known in Iran and has been extensively covered in Persian media, which are considered reliable sources in his home country. These sources were sufficient for his Persian Wikipedia page, but I’m unsure how to properly reference them on the English Wikipedia. I know Koorosh Ghorbani personally and have access to official documents and translated certificates of his championships. He has participated in international races, including two in Mexico and two in Italy, and I might be able to find links to these events. However, most of the detailed coverage of his career is in Persian. Can anyone advise on how to use Persian sources on English Wikipedia? Additionally, is there a way to upload and use translated documents as sources? We’re aiming to introduce him to an international audience, and having an English Wikipedia page is crucial for this purpose. Thank you in advance for any guidance! Neginghaderii (talk) 05:05, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

     Courtesy link: Draft:Koorosh Ghorbani.   Maproom (talk) 05:53, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Neginghadeni. Non-English sources are perfectly acceptable in English Wikipedia, if there are not English-language sources of equal quality. The sources still need to meet English Wikipedia's criteria for reliability; and most of them also need to be independent of Ghorbani - anything written, published, or commissioned by him or any of his associates, or based on a press release or interview, may be used in only limited ways (see WP:PRIMARY) and will not contribute to establishing that he meets the criteria of notability. When citing foreign-language sources it is helpful to include a translation of the title, and perhaps of a relevant quotation from the source - see NONENG.
Sources do not have to be available online, as long as they are published so a reader can in principle consult them (eg by ordering a copy from a major library). Unpublished materials, on the other hand, may never by used as source for a Wikipedia article, irrespective of their provenance.
If you know Ghorbani personally, then Wikipedia regards you as having a conflict of interest. This does not stop you from writing about him, but you should declare this on your user page, and be aware of the pitfalls in writing about somebody you know. [edit]

    Hello,

I recently received an automated warning about potentially spamming when I tried to add external links to multiple Wikipedia pages. The links in question point to the official website of the UAE’s Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA), which is the Federal Government’s quality assurance agency for higher education.

I work at a college in the UAE, and we undergo annual audits by the CAA. The accreditation status of programs and institutions can change frequently, and the only authoritative source for the current status is the CAA’s official website. I’ve been adding this link to various Wikipedia pages related to UAE institutions to provide accurate and up-to-date information.

Here’s why this link is crucial:

    • The CAA website is the definitive source for the accreditation status of UAE higher education institutions and programs.
    • Accreditation status can change annually, with some programs and institutions having their licenses revoked. The CAA's website is the only way to verify the current status.

For example, the CAA website lists detailed information for institutions like the Higher Colleges of Technology, including the status of specific programs (e.g., active, inactive).

I have made these edits under my account, and you can view my contributions here: User contributions for Elrashid.co.

Given this context, I believe that adding these links is important for maintaining accurate and reliable information on Wikipedia. Could you please advise on how to proceed without triggering the spam warning? I also want to ensure that my edits are compliant with Wikipedia’s guidelines on external links.
